About Money Forward

Money Forward Minato-ku, Tokyo

Money Forward is a fintech startup delivering tools to visualize and improve both individuals' and companies' financial health.

Key benefits

  • Small but diverse team
  • Great support for OSS
  • Relocation support

About the position

In the Product SRE Department 1 of the Platform and Reliability Engineering Division, our mission is to ensure the stable operation and enhance the reliability of the “Money Forward Cloud Series,” which supports the efficiency of back-office operations.

As the number and complexity of our B2B products continue to grow, our SRE team is expected to fulfill two critical roles. One is acting as an “SRE” who dives deep into specific products to directly improve their reliability. The other is acting as “Platform Engineering” to sublimate the best practices gained there into common foundations and mechanisms available across the entire company.

We are looking for individuals with strengths in both engineering and communication who can solve on-site issues while transforming those solutions into scalable systems.

Technology Stack

We welcome those who understand the essence of technology and can easily catch up with similar technologies, rather than just “being able to use specific tools.”

  • Main Stack
    • Infra: AWS (EKS, RDS, S3, ElastiCache, Lambda…)
    • Observability: Datadog, Rollbar
    • IaC / CI/CD: Terraform, ArgoCD, CircleCI, GitHub Actions
  • Sub Environment
    • GCP (BigQuery, Firebase), Azure, ECS
    • Middleware: MySQL (Aurora), Redis, nginx
    • Languages: Golang, Ruby (Rails), TypeScript, Kotlin

Responsibilities

  • Fusion of SRE and Platform Engineering: Identify and solve issues in assigned products, and build a cycle to generalize those processes and tools to give back to the company-wide platform.
  • Improving Observability in Microservices Environments: “Visualize the current status” and “advance fault detection” through distributed tracing, metrics design, and log utilization in complex service groups.
  • Ensuring Reliability in Large-scale Data Domains: Involvement in DB tuning and scalable architecture in domains handling vast and mission-critical data, such as HR (Human Resources) and CA (Accounting).
  • Cross-functional Collaboration with Specialized Departments: Work closely with the CISO Office (Security) and QA Office to implement mechanisms and coordination that maximize development speed while maintaining high governance levels.
  • Formulation and Operation of SLO/SLIs: Set goals based on business requirements and establish release decision processes using error budgets.
  • Toil Reduction and Automation: Promote automation of operations, improvement of CI/CD pipelines, and self-service capabilities.
  • Capacity Management: Infrastructure capacity planning and cost optimization based on product growth forecasts.

Requirements

  • Empathy with SRE/DevOps Concepts: A mindset of solving operational and reliability challenges through software engineering.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Construction and Operation Experience: Practical experience using AWS (Main environment).
  • Knowledge of Container Technologies: Experience operating production environments using Kubernetes (EKS) or ECS.
  • Practice of IaC (Infrastructure as Code): Experience implementing configuration management using Terraform or similar tools.
  • Technical Adaptability and Eagerness to Learn: Ability to catch up on inexperienced technical stacks or new tools as needed and select optimal solutions without being fixed on specific tools.
  • Communication Skills to Lead Consensus Building: Skills to dialogue with developers and various specialized departments, including coordination to move projects forward.

Nice to haves

While not specifically required, tell us if you have any of the following.

  • Software Development Experience: Product development using Golang, Ruby, etc., or experience in internal development of advanced operational tools.
  • Microservices Environment Construction and Operation: Experience in debugging and performance improvement specific to distributed systems.
  • Deep Knowledge of Databases: Experience in operation, scaling, and tuning of MySQL (Aurora), etc.
  • Knowledge of Security and Quality Assurance: Experience incorporating security scans into pipelines or test automation.
  • Experience in AI development and/or experience in using AI tools to improve development processes.
    • Money Forward recently announced our AI Strategy roadmap which focuses on improving AI-driven operational efficiencies, as well as integrating AI agents into our products to deliver better value to our users.
  • Japanese Language Skills

Compensation

¥6,408,000 ~ ¥7,908,000 annually.
