About the position

We are looking for a product-minded Engineering Manager to lead our Native Apps engineering team. In collaboration with the wider engineering organization and taking input from across Peatix, you’ll be responsible for the team developing and maintaining our native apps used by Peatix organizers and attendees. You’ll be a strategic partner with our product management team, helping to drive the evolution of our iOS and Android apps.

We know that diversity brings value to our teams and our products, so it’s important to us that we create and maintain an environment where every individual feels safe to bring their unique perspective to the problems we’re solving. We want that to be important to you too.

Job descriptions can never fully capture what we need, and you might be a great fit even if you don’t meet all the qualifications. If you’d like to work with community minded humans and take pride in, and responsibility for, your work then drop us a line: we want to meet you.

Responsibilities

  • Product partnership: Work closely with product management to shape the native apps roadmap, providing technical insights and helping to prioritize features that deliver the most value to our users.
  • Technical leadership: Guide the team in making sound technical decisions, from architecture choices to implementation strategies, while maintaining high code quality standards.
  • Hands-on development: Contribute directly to the codebase when needed, whether it’s tackling complex technical challenges, prototyping new features, or helping to unblock the team.
  • Team management: Manage a remote and diverse team and help create a safe environment where they are empowered to display a strong sense of ownership, and support for each other.
  • Career development: Conduct regular 1:1s with members of the team and provide feedback to help them with their career growth and development.
  • Project leadership: Be responsible for planning, execution, and success of important technical projects, as well as ensuring there’s a shared understanding across the team.
  • Hiring & onboarding: Hire engineers that can support Peatix’s continued growth and support them so that they are comfortable contributing to Peatix.
  • Code quality: Mentor team members and review their code, ensuring best practices and maintainable solutions.
  • Technical excellence: Plan and execute improvements to the maintainability, scalability, and performance of our native apps.
  • Operational support: Provide emergency support (service outages, etc.) by participating in our on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • Product mindset: You think strategically about user needs and business impact, not just technical implementation. You can translate product requirements into technical solutions and vice versa.
  • Strong mobile development background: You have hands-on experience with native mobile development (iOS/Android) and can contribute meaningfully to code reviews, architecture discussions, and even write code when needed. You understand the unique challenges of mobile platforms.
  • Technical leadership: You have experience guiding technical decisions, mentoring engineers, and helping teams navigate complex technical challenges.
  • Communication: You’ll be working with a distributed team, so you’ll need to be a strong verbal and written communicator.
  • Collaboration: You have the ability to empathize and work with a diverse range of colleagues, especially in cross-functional partnerships with product management.
  • Best practices: You understand the value of documenting and gradually enforcing best practices.
  • Strategic planning: You have experience developing team strategy and roadmaps, both technical and product-focused.
  • Production Experience: You have familiarity with distributed systems in a production environment and understand the operational aspects of mobile app development.
