As a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Rapyuta Robotics, you will closely collaborate with Electronics Engineers, Embedded Software Engineers, Procurement Specialists and our Manufacturing partners to push the boundaries of what can be done on robotics hardware.
Responsibilities
-
Mechanical Design for Motion Systems: Develop robust and cost-effective mechanical components for AGVs, AMRs, elevators, and battery exchangers — including chassis, suspension, lift mechanisms, and drive modules.
-
Analysis and Validation: Perform structural, kinematic, and tolerance analysis to ensure safety, reliability, and performance across varied payloads and use conditions.
-
Prototyping and Testing: Build and evaluate prototypes, debug mechanical issues from field escalations, and lead design iterations based on test data and operational feedback.
-
Manufacturing Handoff: Ensure DFM/DFA compliance, support vendor communication for part fabrication, and participate in pre-production builds.
Requirements
-
Proven Technical Foundation: Demonstrated success in delivering high-quality mechanical designs — either through a strong academic program or impactful work at a robotics, automotive, or automation company.
-
Motion Subsystem Experience: 10 years designing mechanical components such as drivetrain assemblies, lift mechanisms, or mobile robot frames.
-
CAD Mastery: Expertise in 3D modeling and detailed 2D drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent, including GD&T application.
-
Design for the Real World: Experience with DFM/DFA, mechanical tolerancing, and material selection for production-quality parts.
-
Hands-On Debugging: Ability to prototype, test, and troubleshoot issues in real hardware — especially in deployed or customer-facing systems.
-
Good command of the English language and ability to communicate with local suppliers in Japanese.
